What’s the difference between JFIF and JPG?
Essentially none. JFIF is the standard format JPEG images are stored in, and .jpg / .jpeg / .jfif all wrap the same kind of data. The .jfif extension just appears less often, which is why some apps don’t recognise it.
Will I lose quality converting JFIF to JPG?
Both are JPEG, so at quality 95–100 the result is visually identical to the original. There is a tiny re-encode, but it’s imperceptible at high quality settings.
Why did my image save as .jfif instead of .jpg?
It’s a known quirk of how Windows registers the JPEG image type — some Chrome and Windows combinations write JPEGs with a .jfif extension. The file is fine; only the extension is unusual.
